About the Wetlands

Belle Garden Wetland Association

In 2009, our group, the Belle Garden Wetland Association, was formed as a result of a training and monitoring project facilitated by Environment Tobago and financed by the United Nations Development Programme, Global Environmental Facility, Small Grants Programme. For six months we learnt about the importance of wetlands, monitoring, awareness creation and were trained in eco tour guiding by our UNDP project manager and the CEO of the Tobago Hospitality and Tourism Institute.

Our aim is to protect the Belle Garden Wetland that is so close to our community and at the same time use it sustainably for recreation, education of our school children and for our eco – tours.

Through our efforts the hunters are reducing pressure on the wildlife and the fishermen work with us to stop pollution of the surrounding rivers and beaches. You will find more information in the download section.
